I'm getting some horrible grain even at 640 iso with light! Is there something wrong with my 7D or do you have to use Neat Video or some other plugin to create these grainless stunning night videos i see on youtube were people are pitch black and you see a sillhoutte without any noise at all. I'm using a 50mm 1.8 which is tack sharp and still no go.

part of it is the compression used to put videos on youtube and vimeo etc

HTP is brutal above 200, just turn it off, shoot flat and expose to the right. Expect grain at 640 in the shadows, but nothing that would make you cringe.
Downsampling and exporting h.264 at medium-ish quality goes far. My example vid here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eW4jc1mG3Ig all 1600 or above.
