7D Got Wet --- Now What?

So I was shooting some slo-mo footage last night with my 7D, and some water spashed on the front of the lens... Now, whenever I go into video mode, weird black lines appear on the screen... All my stills look fine and it does not appear in live view mode for photo. I looked at the mirror, lens, and even the sensor, and it all looked fine and dry... Is this a normal thing that I can fix myself or do I need to get my brand new camera serviced?

For the record though, this shouldn't happen. The 7D is quite weather-sealed; you should be able to take it out in the rain and have it be splashed all the time and suffer no ill consequences!

Which lens were you using? You didn't mention whether or not you tried other lenses.

If you try to fix it yourself you will void the warranty. Send it in. This is a product defect since it's advertised as weather sealed. I'm not totally understanding how water on the lens can cause this, either. Was it an EOS type lens or something adapted?

Letting it dry with the power off and battery removed for a few days is the simplest thing to do and won't affect your warranty at all. If the problem persists after a while then send it in.

If it's not showing up in your pictures then it's got to be the lens. Have you tried a different lens? Was it a third party lens (non-Canon)? I ask because the camera might be weather sealed...but I wonder if the lens could still be affected..??

I wouldn't do that with the kit lens (or any non-weather-sealed lens, for that matter).

It was a M42 Pentax Prime, but the lens did not get wet and I tested other lenses and the problem was still there. And it did not look like the youtube video. There were probably 2 or 3 black horizontal lines that were blurry and probably 1.5 cm thick each...

Ditto. Keep it in a warm, dry space with a fan on it. Tell us true - did it fall into the toilet?

It did NOT fall in the toilet, or get completely submerged in any body of water. It was just splashed in the front by probably a total of just a few tablespoons of water... So I just turned it on after it sitting in front of a fan for about 18 hours and not the huge lines are gone but now it has very small horizontal lines running across the screen. They do not show up when I put the clips on the computer though, however the huge black bars did show up on the computer...

So the adapter probably didn't fit well enough and it let water hit the sensor. Sounds like it's not permanent, so just don't use the camera for a while and leave the lens off. The only thing I don't get is why it wouldn't affect stills. But this is an important lesson for all of us as to the weakness of the sealing.

If it doesn't show up in stills..... does it show up in video (actual recorded video)? Sounds like its the actual LCD screen, that is all it could be unless I am missing some info.

If it were the lens or sensor there is absolutely no way the problem would not be on everything you do...
