7D Fast Motion Dolly Shot - Camera Settings??

I have a short that requires a dolly shot that will be sped up quite a bit. I'm not sure how best to accomplish this. I know it can be done in post by simply speeding it up, but I wonder if I should shoot in something other than 24p - 1/50 like the rest of the footage, then conform later? It's a long dolly that will be about 200 yards (probably being pushed in a shopping cart or something LOL) but it will only run about 2-3 seconds in the final. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If it's something that can be shot from a car, then I would advise you use that over a shopping cart. I'd imagine with the shopping cart you'll get some jerky footage based on the less than smooth action of the wheels.

I agree with handsome pete - a car is a better option.

You need to dolly shot to be slow and steady. To accomplish this, have a few of your crew push the car, rather than trying to drive it that slowly. It will make for a much cleaner shot, which you can then speed up in post.

I'm sure there will be other ideas, this is just one thats worked for me.

The shot takes place in a park and we'll be flying along a path to a street, then down the street. I actually want it to be a little jerky for effect. I have a Merlin but that's not what I'm going for. I can't think of a scene right now that explains what I'm going for. Regardless of the style of the shot, would you still shoot at 24p 1/50 and then just speed this up in post? It will take a fair chunk of time to travel the distance I want to show - even with someone running behind the cart (or whatever I'm using), it will probably be about 30 seconds worth of footage to travel and I want to turn it into a very fast zoom effect that shows the route but doesn't take a lot of screen time (~2-3 seconds).

Remember, this is a short, and a comedy, so I'm not looking for super steady. ;)

I've used electric golfcarts with great success. The car idea is good, but get a truck and go in reverse. that way you can utilize the entire bed.

Ha ha. :) Well I have a quad and a motorcycle but they might not want me riding it through a city park. We're getting off track though. Never mind the vehicle. What setting did you use on the camera and how did you speed it up in post? :) Thanks!
