7D extended warranty?

Finally placed a deposit for a 7D with JB Hi Fi (OZ major chain) and I decided to take up the offer of an extended warranty that means I’m covered for a total of 5 years. This added about an extra 9% to the overall price.

I’m starting to wonder if I did the right thing. The extended warranty has to be purchased with the original purchase of the camera, so I need to decide quickly.

My problem is the Magic Lantern Hack.

I forgot about this and the fact that it voids warranty so I now have to make a choice. This is especially difficult, as the hack, while progressing, doesn’t at this stage actually exist. To tell the truth I am unsure what the added feature set will offer a noob like me, I don’t even know how to use things like Zebra stripes at this point in time. I will probably end up taking the H4N route so the sound recording improvements will not be a factor.

Can the hack be reversed if there was a need to make a warranty claim or would canon easily detect it had been previously installed?

Perhaps I should save the AUS$200 from the extended warranty and load ML after my 12 months Canon warranty expires when maybe I will know how to utilise the added feature set (I’m sure it will be available by then.)

Decisions, decisions. They say money doesn’t make you happy but it would certainly save you some time and effort with this sort of dilema.

Thanks for any thoughts on the matter.

BTW: my wife is dead against me loading up any hack.

Maybe I should rephrase that.

Based on the 5D hack is it likely the 7D hack will be reversable if there was a need to make a warranty claim or would canon easily detect it had been previously installed?
