7D + Contax C/Y or Contax G?

Hi all, I'm just getting into the 7D, getting ready to upgrade from the GH1. I would like to pick up a few contax lenses but have been told only to get C/Y lenses. Is there a reason for this?

Any advice would be great.

Nick

Zeiss Contax C/Y mount lenses will work with both the GH1 and 7D with a simple adapter, without trimming any rear lens protrusions, that may need to be trimmed on a G series rangefinder lens. They are fully manual aperture and focus, and work like any normal manual focus lens. The G series rangefinder lenses need a special adapter with a funky focus wheel to actually focus the lens which is a pain for video work. You would also be able to use a focus gear and follow focus with the C/Y mount lenses, which you would not be able to use with the G. Most people also don't realize that the Zeiss ZF and CP.2 lenses designs sprang from the original Zeiss Contax lenses. I was considering putting my extensive Zeiss C/Y collection up for sale, but I'll hold off until I find a great set of super speed Lomos, and Cooke speed panchros to supplement my Cooke 20-100 zoom.

Good Luck with your lens search!

Dave
