7D buttons not working

Having a weird problem with my 7D; wondering if anyone has encountered anything similar. Basically, most of the buttons on the camera are not working whenever I have an electronic lens attached. If I have a manual focus Nikon lens attached with an adapter, no lens at all, or even a EOS lens half-mounted but not locked on all the way, everything works fine. But as soon as I click an AF lens on (I've tried a Tamron and a Canon), most of the buttons stop working. Strangely, I'm still able to use the aperture and shutter dials and a couple other buttons, but not enough to actually use the camera.

It seems like maybe there's some kind of short circuit that's happening somewhere, but the camera hasn't suffered any kind of trauma since working perfectly for the past year plus. It was working fine, I set it on a shelf, and now it's not.

I've tried resetting the camera settings, updating the firmware, taking all the batteries out and letting the camera sit, and all sorts of combinations of power cycling and lens changes. For awhile during the troubleshooting process, the camera was giving me Error 20 whenever I'd try to put it in video mode, but it seems to have stopped doing that.

Any ideas?
