title:
PP Cs3 + 7D footage = Debugg "ppixhandleutilities.cpp-114"

body:

I am urgently in need of some quality advise/suggestions.

I need to submit a short film for a montreal festival in less than 7 days and premiere pro cs3 is giving me issues with my 7D footage that was converted to the Avid DNxHD quicktime codec.

In the timeline, if i drag the scroller, the video file has an image of the first video frame from that file. If it doesn't load properly or right away i get a little debug message saying

"PPixHandleUtilities.cpp-144" Then i just click okay and it loads it after a few seconds. This isn't that much of an issue during the edit, but now im at the point of exporting, and during the export, that takes all of an hour and a half for a 26 minute piece, somewhere along the export i get the debug error message and the export stops completely.

I am really at a loss at what to do and need to find a solution quickly. Has anyone experienced this or found a way around it? What are my options folks?

Thanks.

I was having this trouble. I opened my project sequence in After Effects, brought in the audio, and exported a Targa sequence and separate audio WAV file. I reassembled the edit in Premiere and was then able to export h.264 and MPEG2.

Make sense?, you are, and I was in some codec hangup. You have to break the chain, hence the targa sequence, no compression. Some other way may work but this is what worked for me.

In Premiere Pro CS3, goto the file menu, option Export, option movie. On the dialog box that appears, select Options. Another dialog box appears and under the general tab, select "File type" Targa. Leave everything else alone and press ok.

Name your files and press ok.

Now I'm just getting this is going to work. Premier may still get hung up. I don't know. This worked for me in After Effects and I think it's because Premiere didn't have to deal with video compression. It should work for you. Give it a try and I'll check back.

will do, thanks chief!

Now, the last question is. All my files have been converted to Avid DNxHD quicktime format. Once my project is finished, i want to export one version that has as LITTLE recompression as possible for archiving and then one version i can burn to bluray.

I have two options for bluray, H.264 bluray and Mpeg 2 bluray. Which one would you recommend?

for the archiving, should i re export as H.264 DNxHD or should i encode the footage as something else? I have very little knowledge with codecs.

Thanks for being so active in this thread Brad. Really appreciate it.

no experience with Blue Ray, just got a burner, but I know Playstation 3 will work with either.

As far as archiving goes, personally, I store all of the files and my master is built from Targa frames as they contain no compression. Good luck. Just trying to put something back into the community.
