7D and on-camera lights

I've been wanting to get an on-camera battery powered LED light for a while now. The two i've tried (i don't remember the names) caused some pretty nasty flickering issues for the camera. I went through every shutter speed the 7D has but wasn't able to eliminate the flicker.

Do all LED lights have this issue? I can't imagine they do, otherwise they wouldn't be so popular. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
 
i have the CN-160 (2 of them)

looks pretty similar to the 96 but with just more LED's (guessin brighter)

No flicker at all with the 7D or 60D.

Are you sure you had your shutter speed set at 50?
