Ok, so I have a Mac Pro with Quad Core and 4GB Ram, with ATI x1900 gpu. I drop the footage into the default sequence settings that FCP recommends:

Framesize: 1920x1080 HDTV 1080i (16:9)
Square aspect ratio
23.98
h.264
quality 100

My computer is chugging... What's the deal? What is Bloom using? What is the best way to edit this stuff?

Drew.

Yes, please be as detailed as possible. How does one transcode? What it is ProRes settings?

You will have to use the compressor program that came with final cut pro to transcode the footage to a more friendly editing codec and Apple prores will be your best choice.

Do a search in google and find a video tutorial because its will be easier for you learn.
Try this one which is for something more difficult but will give you some basics.
