7D and card failures

Ok, I have a 7D and I have an issue that I need to resolve.

I have now had 2 cards that will randomly destroy my data for no reason mid-transfer.

Both cards have been SanDisk Extreme 8gb. They start out ok, then after 10-20 formats things get bad. It will transfer some of my information, then I will get some "device has been ejected incorrectly" error message. I pull the reader out and pu tit back in, and then the card show up with one or 2 oddly labeled gibberish files. If I put it back in the camera, it shows up with a tony bit of memory being used, even if I actually used a lot of space. I do use a card reader every time to transfer, and format in camera every time. Any help would be great, as I have my first wedding coming soon and will have to rent a 5d so that I don't have to fear...

Also watch that you don't have a bad card reader. Bent pins can cause symptoms you've described and seriously corrupt cards.
 
Make sure that you have the latest firmware, it fixed the corrupted files that some are getting.

Nothing is bent, but it was a super cheap reader, like bargin basement style... my money is on it now.

1.2.5 installed.
 
If it is the card reader, are the cards still usable, or has damaged been caused to them permanently?
