75Mbps GH1 Peak Performance Patch

First time poster. The lure of tweaking has brought me here and I've done my homework, reading hundreds of posts. Thanks to all involved. I have successfully gotten the 75Mbps setting applied to my cam with no issues but have a question about a few variables listed that I do not seem to have access too.

1. On a Mac. Using Wine and Ptool 3.55d

2. Opening the 75Mbps .ini file in a text editor to read the settings since it won't load properly on a Mac, and copying these settings in.

3. The 1080p24 GOP size is my last available variable before the AUDIO section in Ptool. The lines below in BOLD are the variables I can't seem to access in Ptool. Will not adding these variables effect performance? So far the cam seems to run just fine, but want to make sure I'm not missing something crucial.

//excerpt of end of lpowell's .ini file//
Overall Bitrate=108000000
720p50 GOP Size=5
720p60 GOP Size=5
1080p25 GOP Size=15
1080p24 GOP Size=12
Preset bitrate=180
Preset bitrate 2=180
Constant for 1080p=9720000
Constant for 720p=864000
Constant 6000=4500

The last five settings are stability patches that are definitely needed for the patch to work properly. They are found under the following PTool 3.55d menus:

Patches for testers/AVCHD Movie Mode/AVCHD Compression
Patches for testers/AVCHD Movie Mode/AVCHD Research

However, the above settings are not the correct ones for the 75Mbps Peak Performance Patch. Use the following settings instead:

Video Bitrate FHD/SH=54000000
Video Bitrate H=29000000
Video Bitrate L=17000000
Overall Bitrate=72000000
720p50 GOP Size=26
720p60 GOP Size=20
1080p25 GOP Size=15
1080p24 GOP Size=15
Preset bitrate=1107
Preset bitrate 2=180
Constant for 1080p=3888000
Constant for 720p=518400

ah. thanks so much. and yes, in my haste i copied and pasted the -wrong- variables from one of your other settings. duh. thanks very much for the quick reply!

Here is another video I did using entirely the peak performance patch
http://vimeo.com/24755211

thinking about changing to the new max latittude patch. However, to my understanding SH would then become 30p, making it very hard to produce slow motion shots. Is this correct? Anyone try it yet?

hello, long time lurker, just bought a gh1 2 weeks ago after i had a sony a33. i'm often shooting videos in low light situations like party videos for events...therefore i'm looking for a good low light patch. i've tried all the known patches now - from rigs one to this one and many more...i'm still having big problems getting these big clusters in my videos...i'm using the 14-140 kit lens...just bought a canon fd 50mm 1,4 for low light situations will see if it changes something for better results...

here is a sample of what i get in my videos: http://vimeo.com/28840591

you see these clusters? my settings are: video mode with the smooth preset, -1, -1, -1, -2
1080p fhd mode, used the trick to get the high auto iso with 60 shutter speed in s mode, Exposure Compensation +2

i know i do something wrong but i've tested for hours to get good results and nothing will do the job...these big clusters are heavy (is it bitratereduction in these areas??)

also the light around candles (around the flame) somehow stays around it. it looks strange - no problem with normal lamps though....

Wrong patch, wrong lens for the job, wrong shutter speed = low bitrate.

i've tested all main patches and get these clusters...which shutter speed would you recommend instead of 60? the lens isn't low light friendly i know, but these clusters are too much i do something wrong...

i know it has something todo with lower bitrates in these areas but i thought that the rigs firmware for example gives me good bitrates even when an image is darker...i've already checked and my firmware says 0.0 therefore the patched firmware should be active...?!

Well yes, your sample video has some pretty horrible banding and blockiness. It's not the lens or the patch - it's the low light situation. Forget Auto-ASA in S mode. Use Creative Movie mode (the movie camera with the M) as your go-to mode for all video work, and try not to go above 800 ASA and you'll get marked improvement from any patch. If 800 won't cut it, even at f1.4 with 1/60 shutter, try 1/30 shutter, which will potentially introduce a touch of motion blur, which you might see in that candle strobing, but it's a compromise.

If you need a higher ASA, put the camera in stills "M" mode, and make it operate in 1/3 stop increments, then back in "Creative Movie" mode, avoid 125, 250, 500, 1000 ASA (extra noise from gain boost) and opt for any of the others, as they are either native (100, 200, 400, 800, 1600) or gain-reduced and hence cleaner (160, 320, 640, 1250).

Well, that's my tuppence, for what it's worth.

hey lucas thank you very much i will try that tomorrow! in normal light situations the rigs preset is faboulous. used it today with my octacopter and image and colourdeph is very good. sharpness too.

still need to work on the low light stuff.
