75Mbps GH1 Peak Performance Patch

skenti dont be upset if your GH1 is unhackable, the footage that can be got from an unhacked GH1 is still beautiful and crisp

you still have a great camera capable of amazing quality.

if anything the hack as slowed me down as i forever tinker with it instead of just getting out and doing it!

dont let it get you down mate, just get out and enjoy shooting and learning as you go! all the best!

Getting some great quality footage with this settings hack, great stuff lpowell. Only had one card speed failure, but that was a wide angle shot of 90,000 people in a football stadium so I can understand that! Switched to 720p and it seemed to work fine.

Card was a Transcend 32gb - 10 speed.

shot 6GB in total today at 720p50 and no failures. Sunny day, grass, dogs running around. Super detail!!!! Great settings.

sandisk 16gb extreme 30mb/s class 10, af and ois running

Am I the only one who has gotten this patch to fail immediately in 1080i60 and 720p60? I installed it with no changes, exactly as-is, and shot a clip of the grass lawn and immediately broke it.

CColton i'm currently running this patch on my (PAL) GH13 (class 10 panasonic) and i've still not had it fail on me, i've been trying to make it error and i cant! trees, pebbles, gravel, leaves, grass and foliage all shoot well.

you defiantly got the most recent release of the patch? i used the 1st release and all i got was speed error's, 4th release seems really stable.

Upon downloading it I looked in my downloads folder and discovered that the patch I used previously was version 3. I will hack it later and see if it works!

Installed it and tested it. Since I love native 24p and hate Cineform, I chose to check Native 24p. This patch is beautiful, and I triggered a card speed error because of the 24p patch, but in my opinion, 24p is worth the slight instability. I also always carry an SD card with the High-Reliability Patch so that if it's freezing up too much on a shoot, I can switch to that patch (which is also remarkable). Thanks again to lpowell and Vitaly for all of your work!

I do not think anyone can count on stability with native 24p. I too tried it and was delighted...for a while but even though it worked fine in a test, repeating the exact same test gave a failure. Even using using a SanDisk Class 10 Extreme, a lock up with the error writing message occurred. I'm afraid lpowell is right: there is no combinational trick that will succeed with native 24p much as I wish 'twere not so. I do think that it will work reliably in specific situations. As a result, I have a three cards. 75 24pN is the first choice, 75 60i version is the second, then, if need be, the Hi Reli version is available. Card switching is feasible, obviously, only in case of a fairly controlled situation (btw, don't forget the need for a fresh battery to do the load; in the field, this might get to be an issue). Without those circumstances, you take your chances with your hack pick. terra1, I hope your success continues; if so, maybe Panasonic class 10 is something to consider.

i gave up on native 25p a while back, the unmodified 75Mbps version 4 patch has been solid for me so far  touch wood.

I gave up shooting paying jobs with 25pN or 24pN way back when the original hack was first released. I have tested each new attempt hoping for a fix, but lpowell is spot on, no setting will produce reliable results good enough for client jobs. Best option is 720p AVCHD, good light and a sharp lens or 720p mjpeg for low light conditions.

lpowell, I may have missed this along the way but has anyone tried editing these different codecs? Mixing the AVCHD 1080 24p/24pN and MJPEG 30p formats in the same timeline??

thanks-z

With all the people complaining about native 25P 30P, are you aware that you simply have 25P in a 50i container (and ditto for 30p and 24p) ? So, the compression is the same as 25P, but the recorded data is split into 2 fields instead of a single frame. Its a small step during post-production.

Its really not a big deal, and its debatable is there is actually a *VISIBLE* quality advantage by recording 25P or 30P.

Dont worry about it !

For PAL, yes. For NTSC, it is not 30p in 60i, it is 24p in 60i, meaning you have to use another program and other step to remove the pulldown to get a usable file.

Agreed, there are some little chroma jaggies but you really have to look for them. Having the stability far outweighs the extra step.

50i to 25p export from CS5 suits me perfectly.

i do understand people wanting to avoid pulldown and stuff, thank universe i'm a PAL user :o) id be lost in NSTC land.

I have to admit that I'm having some difficulty getting quality results with this patch. My usual settings for AVCHD are to leave everything else alone and set Video Bitrate FHD/SH to 5000000 and Overall Bitrate to 56000000. That generally produces video at about 45 mbps for well-lit scenes with some action. With this patch, I seldom see more than 20 mbps - and the image quality is indicative of the lower bitrate.

I'm really scratching my head because this patch seems to be the cats PJs for everyone else. Any thoughts? Thanks!
