HPX250: $730 Rebate on the AG-HPX250 + 64 Gb P2 Card

What to do? Buy the 250, if it checks all your needs and you think you can make money off of it, and as you say, you need a camera now. Don't worry about what's coming out next year. If you think like that, you'll never buy a camera, as you'll always be waiting for "the next best thing."
If the 250 is the proper tool for now, and it's a sound business decision, then there's no reason not to own one.

I'll throw in the Canon XF 300/305 as an alternative, as it does have a very good broadcast codec, cheaper media, and has one of the best lenses ever put on a camcorder. I've owned an HPX500 and a Canon XF305, and I'd pick the XF over the 500 any day. I also got to play with the 250 and I must say, I was very impressed. I honestly don't know which I'd pick, the 250 or the 305.

I'm already on it. I'm going with the 250. The XF was in my top three but it was edged out because of price and what it can do compared to the 250. I do like Canon cameras and I do agree that lens on the XF is awesome. Although, the one thing it does not do is allow you to snap like the Panasonic cameras. But, for the price, the 305, which is comparable to the 250 in terms of I/O connections and similar features is not as good overall. It is only 8 bit and 50 mbps vs the 250's 10 bit/100 mbps. In my opinion, the lens and cheaper media is not enough to justify adding over $2K to the price.

For one, I really could care less about the AF issue, since I use manual focus 100% of the time. As far as peaking? Never had a problem so far, then again I run my LCD in black and white, and it works perfectly for me.

Seriously people, stop b!tching about the camera and go shoot!

"I honestly don't know which I'd pick, the 250 or the 305."

If you can't decide, it probably won't make a difference which camera you choose. They are both very capable and your clients probably won't care as long as they get what they want.

Here in the UK we get a 5 year warranty so that really makes the 250 a no brainer. Barry has clearly explained the focus beyond 3 feet rule and I would not use autofocus on any camera so that "issue" is not a deal breaker. Going to try out a 250 next week. Still not clear whether Canon has addressed their focus issues which seem to be more serious than Panasonic's sluggish autofocus. I have heard that lots of cameras have had to go back to Canon. Do all the latest 305s ship with the fault or is it pot luck if you get a good one?

If you are interested in comparing the 250 to the XF300/305 ask your local dealer that carries both cameras and take them both out for a shoot.
At Texas Media Systems we will typically allow our regular customers to borrow cameras for demos, or allow new customers to rent a camera to test and apply the rental cost to the purchase of the camera.

Don't the Yanks get the same? Now with the 'free' 64gb P2 card and a lower base price its increasingly likely that I'm going to get the 250 from B&H. Great deal even after adding VAT.

I can't understand those guys who claim about the lack of dialing WB in kelvin on a 10 bit camcorder !
could someone explain ?

Ok, just got my camera and filling out the rebate info but I am not sure. The form says the UPC from both boxes, problem is no UPC code on the p2 box. The box dosent have any UPC symbols on it, so what do I send in? The whole box? I am guessing the flap with the SN# but there is no UPC code. HELP....

If concerned about ramping when zoomed all the way in, do what we've been doing with ENG zoom lenses for 30 years--don't zoom all the way in.

Or just set the iris to the max at the long end of the zoom and then you have no change in exposure when you zoom in

What I love about the HPX250 is how light sensitive it is. When I first got it I was terrified about using PAP1 in low light situations; so I used PAP2 and gain. I have since used PAP1 many times and I have yet seen any of the noise ghosting or micro-jelly that was talked about so much with HPX370. It's really clean. Now when confronted with low light, I flip it to PAP1 -- although I do watch carefully for any sign of micro-jelly.

We're considering adding a second HPX250 before March 31, our first one has been busy since October--clients really like it. Biggest problem is cannibalizing our HPX2700 rentals!

Okay, so... is the rebate still active? So if I'm doing the math properly, you're talking about $4710 for an HPX250 with a 64gb P2 card? That's ridiculously cheap.

Once again, thanks for supporting the membership here by being a sponsor and by bringing killer deals to us.

Whats your policy on foreign Credit Cards English in this case? I can have it shipped to a residential US address... my sisters in Phoenix.
Cheers
We don't accept cards issued by non-US creditors because of our address verification policies. We can only ship to an address on file with your creditor (either as the primary billing, or the secondary/alternate/shipping address), and we are unable to verify addresses with creditors outside the US.
