72mm to 77mm step up ring, is it Ok?

Dear all

I am quite new to dslr. I need advise. My mattebox is 72mm and my DSLR is 77mm. I have lots of 4 X 4 filters for my mattebox. Can i just buy a 72mm to 77mm step up ring. Is it ok? any loss in quality or image ?

You're stepping DOWN, not up, aren't you? Your matte box is narrower than your DSLR's lens filter size, yeah?

For example, I needed a 77m to 72mm step down ring to use my filters I got for my (non-video) DLSR's on my XH A1. Any time you step down you do risk vignetting (frame-edge darkening, most often in the corners). But, hard to say if it'd be visible. On a full-frame DSLR like a 5D, I'd guess it'd probably be visible. On a smaller-sensor DSLR like a 7D or GH1, you might not have any problem. Never tried it myself.
