Hi,
Does the HPX170 records 720x960 or 720x1280 how does it come up when u transfewr it in FInal Cut Pro how about 1080P 1440x1080 or 1980x1080?

David, I am surprised that you replied to this question at all, sonuxxx should have RTFM'd it. I am also surprised that you answered incorrectly.

David S. gave an incorrect answer. In 720 mode, the camera records 960 (horizontal) by 720 (vertical) pixels. In 1080 mode, it records 1280 x 1080.

Each of the three CCD sensors has 960 x 540 photosites, with the active areas of the green sensor physically shifted in relation to the red and blue sensors. But that is entirely irrelevant to the recording format.

thx everybody just one more question does the picture distorts when u convert it to 1280x720 or 1980.1080?

This is grey territory....the image is never trully "distorted" unless you do something wrong....it's more about how we are looking at it, lol. The pixels on the HVX are not square.

In the end it's best to just not think about it...it'll just give you headaches, nightmares, and possiblly cause your ears to bleed if you start worrying over how and why the camera does what it does....as long as you select the right format before filming, and put the footage into the correct kind of project when editing, you'll be perfectly fine.

If you want, I'm sure you can find tons of info on all the details....but most just brush it off in order to get on with making films. I myself revel in the details and love knowing every last bit...but I'm a bit weird, lol

Perhaps I am misunderstanding the OP's questions, but I remember that the camera uses three 1/3 in 960×540 pixel (0.5 mega-pixel) progressive scan CCDs to capture an image.

And that's what I stated.

Yeah it's just a slight miscommunication. They were asking about the dimensions of the footage that is actually being stored, while you thought they were asking about the dimensions of the imagers.

Thanks Nick.

We usually get the question of the sensors and pixel shifting, so I assumed that was the thrust of the question.

best
