720p60p for running handheld

So for my next movie I want a few shots of extremely shaky Handheld running behind someone. I do these shots all the time with videocameras, but was wondering if there is a way to do this with a dslr?
I'm well aware of jello etc. but if I shot at 720 60 and changed the framerate in compressor (ala gh1) would I get a decent shot? and would this play well with 1080 clips?

Thank you.

Bump.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've never tried it and i'm curious if anyone else has. I realize these shots are difficult on dslr's

I definitely would not recommend it, but that may be an option. I don't have much experience with converting frame rates while maintaining the same motion candence, but whenever i've tried it i get a juttery image. May be different for you.

If you highten the shutter speed, the jutter might not be so noticeable.

Shot this a week ago, some pretty fast whip pans and running shots, jello isn't too horrible.

but i would opt for a different camera if thats what you plan on shooting. doesn't sound like the right tool for the job to me.

If you are doing some Saving Privet Ryan/BoB pure out sprinting shots I might try another camera for those.

The difference between a medium jog and a flat out sprint over 50 yards is significant, and to my eyes the 7D just can't handle the latter well enough. I had a shot in a film I just wrapped like the one I just described and used an HVX for it. Matched well enough that no one will notice and no jello.

But really, this is an easy thing to test, and it will take you all of ten minutes.

I can do an all out sprint when I get home. I have a handle for my camera that I use for filming skateboarding (http://www.camcaddie.com/) that I expect will remove some of the additional pitch and yawing in the footage and make it a bit more manageable for faster paced shots.

here you go.

1080 24p
Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC (Vibration control was on)

Lens set to 17mm (widest). this is also key

I dont see the need to shoot 60p for it...this is quite acceptable to me.

key things i did
a. widest lens setting
b.VC or image stabililized lens
c. I had the camera strap around my neck and held it taught (i duno if thats how u spell t :) )...but i held it so there was no slack. i get pretty stable shots like that i find. This was also my first day shooting with the camera, so i'm sure with some practise it can be better.

Man, Jam, for a moment there I thought it was Usain Bolt. :D

Props to you guys for getting out and doing these quick "tests" for the OP. If I ever get down to Jamaica, the Red Stripe's on me (and Barry).
