720p60 transcoding question

After spending hours searching through everyones opinions I'm overwhelmed with answers on editing and transcoding.

Footage is 720p60 using Vegas Pro on my PC to edit on a 30p timeline.

The timeline has a lot of clips because I'm making a music video. Most of the clips work great, but many of them glitch and in the preview and rendered file one of the frames will repeat over and over again for the duration of that clip. Some clips are slow motion at 50% speed, but non slow mo clips are having issues as well. I have unchecked the resample box on all clips. It seems that the consensus is if I transcode the AVCHD files I will eliminate many editing problems.

1.) What transcoding program do you recommend?

2.) What file type should I transcode to for use in Vegas?

Thank you,

Keith

I highly recommend Cineform Neoscene. But if you don't want to spend the bucks (about $100), then search around for the "Proxy Stream" script and use it to convert to Sony MXF.

Thank you Rich. Is there a big time saver or ease of use factor by going with Neoscene as opposed to a different encoder?
Well it is a bit easier and perhaps a bit faster to use Neoscene than using "Proxy Stream." But the biggest difference is that the resulting NeoScene Cineform AVI files are 4:2:2 colorspace. The Sony MXF files are smaller than the Cineform AVI files (although both are much larger than the original mts files).

Both Cineform AVI and Sony MXF edit very well (in fact MXF may be a bit better although I have not really compared them since the initial release of 9.0). I generally use Cineform AVI for critical projects and Sony MXF when I just want something to put up on the web (just because of the size issue).

There was some controversy a while back on the Sony Vegas Forums about which was better (in particular over multiple generations). I think the general consesus is that Cineform is better if you are generating multi-generation intermediates.

Thanks again. I just downloaded the trial version to check out converting files. Having some trouble with the program doing anything but give me error message with my hmc150 files but that is a whole different thread searching problem.
