All Hallows Fest

I'm not suggesting this for this fest (it's too late in the game to start changing the rules anyway), but perhaps for the next one, deliverables could be in Ogg Theora format rather than Mpeg4?

Theora is patent-free, and is available at no charge for ALL platforms (Windows, Linux, and MacOS), so no one will have any issues using it. It offers compression and quality comparable to many Mpeg4 codecs.

Also, Theora streams very well via the Cortado java applet or iTheora, so we could even arrange an easy way to screen them via streaming video (bandwidth allowing, of course), if we wanted to.

Damn I missed the boat. I need to enter my 1st dvx festival. I "shoot" for the next one if it sounds cool. So where do this get screened at who judges these? Does dvxuser have on every few months?

thanks

You haven't missed the boat. The festival is open for entries. The deadline for entries is October 26th for this one (I think). We do do them every few months or so. They are screened right here by all of the members. Every film that is submitted gets viewed and voted on by the public (unless it doesn't meet the simple guidelines for the fest and is disqualified). The judges are anyone who is a member of this forum and has at least 100 posts (or submitted a film of their own).

Awesome,
I will talk to some people to see if I can get a crew.

thanks Jason.

I just had a quick question about this:

All cameras are eligible to participate and fo for prizes.

All cameras are eligible for prizes? fo?

I'm assuming that for B+W films, a wine glass filled with something dark works? (trying to resist every temptation to "Sin City" the color of red wine into B+W, but I know it wouldn't serve my story)

Yes. I had to ask this question just to be positive as well. Wine glass with dark liquid for black and white films is ok.

Later,
Jason

Can I make a music video for this fest... assuming it conforms with the guidelines? Has anyone done that in the past?

The intent is really aimed at a short narrative film, but the rules don't really specify a genre, so if you want to do a music video, that's ok. I think someone entered a music video in one of our previous fests and we all survived.

Cool, thanks. Personally, I prefer narrative works... but this might be a way for me to kill the proverbial two birds with one stone.

Sweet... dancing zombies, vincent price, and michael as a werewolf! Does it get any better? I think not. Did he shoot it on a dvx or an hvx? ;)

sweet... this is my chance to enter and see if i'm worth anything! where do i sign up? sorry i'm new here...

Welcome to DVXFest. To enter, all you need to do is submit your film by the deadline--we'll have the details posted close to the submission date. You can submit up to two flms, but I think you're better off putting your energy and resources into a single film.
