720p25p:50 vs 720p50p:50

Ok I'm now getting confused.
Is their a different end result with theese two formats ?

The stream is the same but the metadata and userbit will enable the NLE to import them as you shot eg. 50% speed in 25p and 100 % speed in 50p.

Both are shooting 50 frames per second, but one (720/25) is establishing a 25fps timebase, the other (720/50) is establishing a 50fps timebase. So the 720/25 version will play back in slow motion, and the 720/50 will play back in realtime.

The other major difference is that the 720/25pN clip won't have any audio recorded. Audio is not recorded when using variable frame rates.

cheers, I was aware of those facts but i'm using the 50p for importing into twixtor an re-timing.
So I just need the 50 frames anyway i can get them.
Pitty it's not possible on mac with pal footage yet :(

Barry, dont know if the HVX-200e was changed but my camera definitely records audio when shooting variable in 720/25. Just tried it with playback in camera.

In "over 50" it does, but in "native" it won't. At least in the US version.

Try it in 720/25pN; if you set the frame rate to anything other than 25 you should see the audio meters quit registering and the headphone jack goes silent.

That's correct same over here, no audio in 720/25pn when shooting any rate other that 25.

I just missed the n in your post as 4mat was talking 720/25p

You didn't miss it, I blew it when I first typed it. I went back in afterwards and added it to avoid confusion for future readers!
