720p24pn VS. 720p24p?

If you shoot 24pN, only the native 24p files are recorded and the files have a frame rate of 23.976.

If you shoot 24P, the files are recorded along with duplicate frames in a 60p stream, and the files have a frame rate of 59.94. You need to remove the duplicate frames to edit as native 24p.

Most of the time, you'll want to shoot 24pN.

(following up with David's post)...that's because 24pn offers you much longer recording times per GB.

A 16Gb card gives 16.5 minutes in 24p and 42.5 minutes in 24pN. Also, 24pN lets you record special frame rates (with the hack, 2fps to 60fps).

1. Is there a noticeable difference in visual quality?

2. Final Cut Pro only has an option to log and transfer dvcpro hd 720p24. I'm guessing that this is the way to go.

No difference in quality.

You log and transfer after setting a 720/24p easy set up.

And in the L/T preferences, set the correct duplicate frame checkbox.

There is no difference in visual quality because each frame is exactly the same between the two. The only difference is that in order to fill out the 60p stream, the codec makes copies of frames and inserts them into the streams.
