720p more film-like than 1080i?

Hi all:

I’m about to start my first Project with the HVX200

I know this has been discussed a million times before, but I can’t seem to get a definitive answer. ..and I would really appreciate it if someone can help me.

I want to get the best “film-like” image as possible.

I’ll shoot with the camera’s stock lens, good lights and cropping to get 2.35..but…
I don’t really mind not getting the sharpest image, or having to stop to download the P2 cards a lot…

Should I shoot in 1080i or 720p?? Will 720p give me more of a film like texture? since it’s real progressive??

I’ll edit in Avid and hopefully move the project around festivals..

Thanks a lot in advance.

You can also get real progressive in 1080. It is just embedded into an interlaced stream. Your NLE will remove that later on. So go for 1080 unless you need the card space or slow motion.

HVX's image sensor is just 720p, so there is no real difference in shooting 1080p or upscaling 720p in post. The 720 24Pn mode will give you alot more P2 time.

VictorS,

THe HVX actually captures everything at 1080p and than processes it to the desired HD recording resolution whether it's 1080p, 1080i or 720p.
