720p/24pN Default frame rate or 24p?

When using the camera in 720p/24pN mode using the "default" frame rate will give me 24p, No? If so then why can I also select 24p as an option under framerates? will only shooting under the default setting allow me to record audio, is this the only difference, or is the 24p framerate the exact same thing allowing me to record audio as well.

I know its a random question, but I just didnt understand why there was an option for both of these in 720p/24pN mode if they are both identical.

You may be confusing overcranking and undercranking footage which does not record audio.

24pNative does not require any pulldown when importing in FCP, for example because only the required frames are recorded.

For an explanation of the modes generally try:

maybe im not wording my question correctly, i am very familiar with over and undercranking, as my background is in film. Just in the menu when you can set your framerate there is an option for "default and also an option for "24fps" I am wondering are both of these the same thing, if i was to choose 24 fps as opposed to default would i still be able to record audio? if infact they are both identical.

Yes.

Because you may decide to change the recording format to 30pN, or 60P. Do you want your default frame rate to change to 30 (or 60?) Or do you want it to stay at 24? You have a choice. Put it on "default" and it'll change to 24fps in 24pN or 720/24p mode, 30fps in 30pN or 720/30p mode, or 60fps in 60p mode. But if you force it to 24, it'll stay in 24 regardless of what recording mode you choose.

Choosing 24fps in 24pN gives the exact same result as choosing "default" in 24pN. Choosing 30fps in 30pN gives the exact same result as choosing "default" in 30pN.

The only time you don't record audio is when you're shooting in a pN mode, at a frame rate other than the default (i.e., 20fps in 24pN, or 24fps in 30pN).

In certain circumstances they are identical, but you can change the circumstances and that's where the difference comes into play.
