7-14 on GH2 - Focus issues

Hi,

got a 7-14 on ebay, testing it out on GH2 and when I auto focus on objects close up its sharp but the wide shots using auto are soft,
tried it on the AF101 and seems to work ok but auto focus on there is SLOW, takes maybe 5 secs to settle,
anyone else shooting with this lens can give advice on what I might be doing wrong?
I'm hoping the lens isnt damaged,

I seriously doubt the lens is damaged. Autofocus does depend on detail and some contrast and detail being rendered smaller with wide lenses is likely the problem. Cameras will be affected to different degrees. If I had that lens I would be using magnified assist (in manual focus mode) whenever possible.

Spatial relattionships between objects in the scene get reduced in wide angle views and exact focus could be difficult, but the magnified assist should let you "nail" focus accurately manually. Enjoy that lens, I hear good things about it.
