64GB P2 Card Release Date?

I was wondering about this.

According to tradition (as I read in the forum) every new P2 card comes out at the same price of its predecessor, and the predecessor receives roughly a 50% discount.

Well, is the same expected to happen with the 64 GB card?

I would be pretty sweet to get a 32 GB card for 800 bucks. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit of a drop in the price of the 32 and 16gb cards, but I'm not optimistic it'll be 50%. You might see 20-35% less, but that's purely speculation.

Maybe....

64gb for about $2000
32gb for about $1200
16gb for about $ 750

Keep in mind, this is just my own speculation, and not based on any solid facts or information. But yes -- it would be nice to get a 50% drop across the board.

i dont see it dropping much either, i certainly wouldnt hold off on getting a 16GB/32GB over a few bucks decrease ($100-$150).

I've also heard that they're re-engineering how they make 8GB cards. Something about instead of making an array of SD cards, they'll just buy the SD memory and hook it all together, which I would assume would mean that 8GB cards will be coming down in price even more than just with the introduction of the new cards. If the 8GB cards dropped to a couple hundred bucks, then that would be huge. The lack of record time for the cards we have right now is what's keeping us from doing everything in HD. We still use mini DV tape if we're recording for more than about an hour. It still looks pretty good since we're making DVD's, but the DVD's we've made from HD footage just seem to look crisper and better.

wow, 2000 bucks for a card that records an hour of DVCPRO HD. insane!
when, oh when will these prices come down????

To put P2 card costs in perspective... do the math on shooting 35mm film and processing it and telecining it then digitising it etc....

Start with 1 hour rushes is 12+ x 400' neg rolls then keep adding ...........

BTW - you can not re use 35mm film (for those that dont know)

P2 Cards are a joy and a bargain (even if they were twice the price.)

any reason to expect maybe around the same time the 170 comes out? i need more p2 as well. hoping for a decent price drop before i pick up some more cards.

I"m hoping that it's not 2 grand, but 1500 bucks and then moving the 32 gig down to a grand. 16 gigs for 600 and the 8 gigs down to 250 bucks. Where it should be. I'd snatch up a bunch of the 8 gigers... where's the cost savings for us? an 8 gig series 6 SD card will only set you back 30 bucks now.

With the old PCMCIA-festooned mac laptops work with the new 64GB cards?

For that matter, will the newly-retooled 8GB cards work as well?
