6400 ISO is the new 800 ISO on Canon 7D

I have been doing some research on noise reduction and got the facts with a test run of Neat Video. Here are my results: before post noise reduction iso 800 was the MAXIMUM for acceptable noise in the image. Now you can actually ramp up to 6400 iso and still have reasonable quality.

No more 1.8 F-Stop when shooting in low light! It’s great for focus pulling!

800 iso friend =:violent5:

Well done, I have Neat Video and has been a life saver for some very low light clips. It also has a side effect of masking the macroblocking a little bit which helps with overall IQ!

I loved neat video when I was using the HVX mostly when I forgot to turn on the adapter. I will test this out for sure. Its just so damn slow.

One thing that has always confused me was the correlation between available light levels, f-stop and focus pulling. I don't even know if I'm saying that right.

Well I think in a situation where there is little light available you I first try to compensate by boosting the ISO. Usually I stop cramping iso at 800 because the rest was to noisy. Then you open up the aperture because you are stuck with 1/50th. Usually I am in a situation where I need an 1.8 f-stop to be able to see the scene. That leaves a really shallow depth of field to work with. Usually 3 inch to 2 feet depending on where is your subject. That's a lot of work on focus pulling to get it in focus.

Now with 3 stops more, you can work with F 3.2 F 4. I gives you some latitude in your deph of field. It's also what we need in documentary situation.

Anyone using Windows 7 with Neat? I have it installed on my XP but heard Neat NR crashes CS4 on Windows 7...

Thanks, Michael
