60fps Test: Cats & Guns

Not to pick sides, however to get it correct.

Guns don't kill people. People kill people. The same as cameras don't make bad movies, people make bad movies.

Btw if there were no guns people would still kill each other with their bare hands, knives or stones..........

Especially whenever a new camera comes out.

LOL!

I'm sure this can be taken elsewhere, but... someone's got a much longer shot of killing me with their bare hands than if they have a gun, so that's not exactly correct...

Danilo Del Tufo, I know you can buy guns that just fire blanks. The only problem with those is that the muzzel flash becomes an ejector flash. I'm sure there are some out there that have a muzzel flash and that just fire blanks. I'm not sure of how the flash trick is performed. I know that a lot of big films now-a-days just CGI in the flash later. Seems like using blanks would be easier but way more dangerous, remember what happened to Brandon Lee on "The Crow". Scary stuff.

As far as the whole me having a real couple guns is concerned I rather not get into it here in the clips section. I would like to get into it in another section on this forum, just not this one.

Again guys thanks for the comments and I'll post some more stuff tomorrow when I have a chance to go out and shoot(my HVX that is) in the day. I'm also planning on going over to Warner Bros. and throwing some of this footage up on their 2K projector right out of the camera. I'll post in the HVX News section what it looks like when I do that.

Also here's a little present for you gun guys out there. This was not shot on the HVX just to clarify before hand.

Cool shot, looked like fun!!!

If possible, it would be interesting to see the same thing using over cranking on the HVX-200 to slow things down.

BobDiaz, I'm planning on doing some 60fps stuff with my .223 rifle towards the end of the month. Its not as cool as that M16 that guy had but it should look nice. I'll post it when I get it done.

Blaine, not a problem man. Hope it helps you out.

I think we should leave the cats & guns alone and do some slow-mo tests of hot chicks doing Hot Chick Things ...

Running in halter tops, jumping on the bed, .... anything with the dolly test chick from the other thread ....

MY BAD, Go to my Room .....

No, I didn't shoot any cats. They only got shot with the HVX. Believe me I love my cats, I'm sure it doesn't look that way from the footage of them running away from the camera.

I've done a few gun play scenes and scenerios... and have a little advice here for what it's worth.

1- I'd highly recommend hiring a pro gun wrangler/weapons, explosives and such guy. There is a guy here locally who is very reasonable. His rate is 300 for the day, plus 50-75 per blanked out gun, 20 per squib hit, 20 cents a round... and he also does pyro, zerk hits, glass and cemete hits as well.... Locally, I'd recommend Mal Boland from Boland Production Supply.

2. Don't ever bring a real gun on a set. Cops show up, and someone is in some big big trouble. The fake prop rubber guns look good in wide shots.. The blanked out guns are good for close-ups.. and of course for firing.

3. A blanked out gun will deliver some impressive looking footage. The trick that some people talk about involves editing out a couple of frames of the blast.

4. Treat any gun as a real one with the same type of gun safety....

Never.. never.. under any circumstances let you see them sweat...

Justyn,
Where do you buy these rubber guns from? How do you use them? Do you add muzzle flashes later in post? Do you use flashes to add light on the scene when a rubber gun is fired? How do you do bullet hits on actors or on walls?
I've seen some stock footage sites offering real muzzle flashes (from real guns) shot in a dark room. I would imagine the you do a luma key and add the flashes to you prop gun scene. I've also seen them offer green screen wall hits that you could chroma key on walls to show bullets chipping away at walls. I was hoping to find alternative ways to add muzzle flashes and bullet hits as this stock footage in a HD format costs big bucks. Any ideas?
Sorry, I'm going off topic. Seeing the slow mo gun shots makes me want to shoot a gun battle scene with the HVX200!

OMG that was funny! :D I'm not a cat person...actually can't stand them. I'd never hurt them or anything, I just hate their independence. ;) I like dogs. ;)
