This is a pretty n00by question. I've only worked with harddisk camcorders before.

What SD card would you guys recommend I get for my 60d.

I'm looking for an 8gb size one to start with :)

you can find decent 16 gig cards at most electronic shops for around $50... get at least a class 6. 10 if you can find one reasonably priced. The internet has great deals, shop around. (newegg.com perhaps?)

Thanks Mr. Bill much appreciated, I will do.

Has anyone had any problems with these? The forum has usually got a few sandisk buffer error threads. Transcend's is decent?

Also your signature...you've got some impressive gear! It's a bit to ask, but I'd love to see what your setup looks like. Any pictures?

Class 4 works flawlessly. Been using them for a while now. Why can't I find this being said anywhere else?

Saxton, my stuff is all pretty budget (apart from that 70-200) and is really the basics I needed to shoot paying gigs on - plus a half-decent tripod, a loupe, an on-camera monitor + various filters.

Are you lot using the transcend with no problems?

There's quite a few reviews going on about data loss, and even the card completely corrupting and not working.

I've also read, despite it being class 10, it doesn't have a particularly quick write speed?

I bought a bunch of SDHC cards almost 2 years ago. Back then very few cards listed a write speed. I don't know if that is still the case today or not. I have not bought new cards in the last 1.5 years. Two of the cards that I found that do list a write speed are the Delkin Devices and OCZ Gold, both of which list a write speed of 150x.

I did a quick online search and could not find OCZ Gold cards but I did find Delkin Devices.

Apparently the Delkin brand name cards are very good, but not very well known.

I've seen excellent reviews from professionals over at B&H, but not much anywhere else honestly. Price seems to be more than your standard fare Kingston and Transcend, but not much. I still just can't justify the outrageous prices Sandisk requires.

Terry, you beat me to it. Just to elaborate, the 60D writes video data up to around 50mbps. I wouldn't take too much notice of the card manufacturers stated write rates, there's no standard as to how these are obtained. A fragmented class 6 card can write data at up to 6MBps, which is how the card class is derived and why it's Canon's minimum recommended spec. You can be lucky with class 4 cards, especially fresh formatted, but it would be false economy to rely on them for video where it matters.

sorry I meant megabytes haha. So mbps is bytes and MBps is bits? Cheers for clearing the class thing up. As long as it's a class 6 card it'll work fine for video?
