60D Footage quality query

I recently bought a 60D and can't shift the feeling that the image quality is not as good as the 5D I've been using at work for video. It looks smeary, almost unresolved to my eye. I've got rid of all the NR and DR expansion - turned everything off that I can. I have contrast all the way down, sharpness all the way down, and saturation two clicks down.

Alas I can't show you any side by side tests with 60Dv5D but I can show you some examples of the video in this download (I've zipped up three files):

Both videos I have gone for centre sharpness only, I'm not looking at the rest of the picture (uneven surfaces etc). I used the above setting plus 25P 50th/sec ISO 320 f3.5 on an EF 50mm 1.4 USM lens (currently my only lens for this camera) - a good sharp lens. For the book shot I have included an out of camera still for reference. On the wicker lattice the focus was on the chip in the paint - centre frame. On the book, the focus was ont he word "large" centre page. If anyone fancies taking a look and letting me know what they think I'd be very grateful.

Cheers,

James

I got the Mk2 a couple months ago and been surprised how much difference it is. To me, 5D produces a somewhat sharper video than the aps-c cameras, and just overall "feels" better. Most agree 5D is still the king, but the point of discussion is really about justifying the price difference. Not to mention skintones, which is a whole other league on the fullframe sensor.

Thanks for your thoughts, Martin. Did you take a look at the images I linked? Did they look about what you'd expect or sub-standard to your eye?

From my experience, with the 5D at the lowest contrast and sharpness - it's still quite abit more contrasty and sharper than the 7D/550D/60D at the lowest setting. I usually have the camera a few notches off from the very bottom. But besides that (and obviously lenses and crop factor etc), it looks just as good to me.

I've looked at your videos and it looks normal to me.
http://www.zacuto.com/the-great-camera-shootout-2011/episode-one watch that and heck, I prefer the look of the 7D and D7000 =]

I looked at the 2010 Great Shootout and was really impressed with how well the 7D compared to the 5Dii and other cameras (and, as far as the video goes, I've yet to find someone who has shown a discernable differance between the 60D and 7D). The 7D was a bit noisier but performed very well in just about every respect.

Are you comparing video shot using the same lens on both cameras? If not your comparisons are not valid. BTW I mean the exact same lens taken off one camera & put on the other as you can get two examples of the same lens where one is a bit wonky & softer than the other.

This isn't a comparison. Just footage from one camera.
