60D ever gonna get the crop function?

Is it possible that they could add the 3X zoom from the 600D to the 60D via firmware? I gotta say, I'd really love to have this feature available as I can't afford a Macro lens just yet.

99,9% sure they could, but do they want is the different question. I would say it's 50/50 and only depends which way they can make the most money from both cameras.

it will never happen, not on consumer cam, only 5d got 24p and it was very weird that they did it,i never heard about something like this before, it wasnt simple upgrade to be cimpatible with something, it was new feature and 24p in cams at this price is still quite rare.

not going to happen. think about it, canon didnt give 7d users manual audio after everyone cried to them about it for so long, and the only time they have ever added a noteworthy feature with a firmware update was adding 24p on the 5dii. im also not sure its possible through ML because we would have already seen it on the t2i and i think the developers said it wasnt possible.

Let's not forget the 5D also got a firmware update for manual audio. So why does the 5D get updates and not the others?

It has to do with the lifespan of a product. The 5D is an expensive investment and Canon really works hard to keep the loyalty of those customers. Note that they haven't come up with the next 5D mark yet, while the Rebel line has had at least 2 upgrades in hardware.
The "consumer line" of their DSLRs (which include the 60D and Rebel series) appear to be considered more disposable, with a short shelf live and new models released often to gain consumer attention. They don't traditionally receive those kinds of software updates because they expect you to purchase the next hardware iteration instead.

The crop mode appears to be mostly software controlled and theoretically possible with custom firmware like ML, however we have very little data regarding how the sensor data is accessed. Canon likely will not issue it as an update to the 5D because the next version (with Digic V, etc) is rumored to be around the corner.

Since we're on the topic of the next 5d, while I was at B&Photo today the man who seems to be eternally stationed at the Canon cameras section answered someone's question when the mark III is coming out and he assuredly said "soon next year." Doubt he has any inside knowledge about this, but he did somewhat convince a potential buyer away from buying a camera.

Weird. A bunch of the employees there are good friends of mine outside of the store. I'm fairly certain it is nothing more than just a rumor, but one thing about B&H is that their sales reps tend to be brutally honest. Sometimes at the cost of a sale.

You are mistaken. The 5DII does indeed have 24p but so does my 600D (T3i) as does my Canon GH2. Looking at the specifications so does the 550D (T2i), 60D & 7D.

You dont get it i guess, you think its not a big deal that they gave 24p to 5DII ?
You clearly think that it is a big deal but also thought that no other camera but the 5D had 24p whereas all the usual stills cameras being used for video (Canon DSLRs & Panasonic GH2) have 24p. I'm happy that they all have 30p & 24p but I am a bit pissed off that the GH2 doesn't have 25p.

they obviously could improve their cameras with mid-life updates, they just don't want to

which, for a 3-year-old camera like the 5D2 with no replacement in the market yet, is starting to look silly

if they want you to wait 3 years before you upgrade your camera, it wouldn't hurt them a bit to add or improve features through firmware updates, you're going to upgrade anyway when the replacement comes out, 3 years is a lot of time in the tech world, a hardware upgrade will anyway bring huge improvements over an old-hardware, upgraded-software body; plus, if you know company A routinely improves their cameras with firmware upgrades, you're likely to choose it over company B even if at the time of release A is slightly behind

but it's their call; believe me, if they wanted to, Canon could release tomorrow the 5D2 firmware that allows 4:2:2 recording; they probably won't
