600D better then 5D with

flexcube

Hi guys, for a festival I am looking to rent some extra gear. The festival takes place during the day and night.
So low light performance is important.

I have 2 options:
600D + fast lenses + glidecam
or
5D mark II + fast lenses

What do you think, will the 600D perform good enough in low light or should I really go
for the 5D because it is FF and the iso can be higher?

The 600d is noisy over ISO 800 and only has full stops next being ISO 1600. The 5D is much better probably 1600 to 3200 will work. Also you will find a selection of faster lenses easier than the aps-c format so may get 3 more stops . Since you are planning to rent maybe a Sony A7s if you can find one.

+1

But if you cant find the Sony, or you need to go for a Canon...go for the 6D. I dont think it will be more expensive than the 5D to rent...and for low light its much better!

Thanks for the reply's :) A7s isn't available for rental in Holland as far as I know.
Will check out the local rental place for a 6D and otherwise a 5D.

Because I noticed on my last shoot, I really had to bump up the ISO. But above 1250 (with Magic Lantern)
the footage is just getting to noisey even for correction in post.

5D it is, only a shame I can't install ML on a rental cam :)

On the other hand, the T3i has a couple of extra features that i find very useful for festival/event shooting:

- Articulating screen.
- 3x crop mode, this is a life/time saver when it comes to quickly jumping from a wide to a medium/closeup during a performance or presentation.
