600D 3x crop mode for 720p?

A quick question for 600D/T3i owners which google has failed to answer for me... Can you shoot 720p50/60 with the crop mode?

If so is it exactly the same crop, or does it cut out even more because you are only using 1280x720 pixels rather that 1920x1080?

I'm looking to add a 2nd body soon and it's gonna be either a 60D or 600D. I'd love the 60D for the extra size and control wheel, plus the better audio features with ML (because the audio features are disabled in the 600D ML), but I could sure use some extra reach when shooting surfing from land. Even with my 70-200 and 2x teleconverter is still seems like I'm miles away sometimes. And because I only shoot surfing stuff in 720p, it's no good to me if it only works in 1080p. So please, enlighten me!

As far as I know (from porting ML), the 3x mode is only in 1080p. I remember enabling it by mistake in 720p and this resulted in ERR70 on tester's camera.

If you shoot FullHD, the crop mode on 600D is really good (i.e. no aliasing and moire). For 720p... get a 60D/550D (same image quality for both) and an aliasing filter :)

I found 60D very good for photos in burst mode.

I have the 600D/T3i, and tele-crop mode is 1080p only.

If you want a crop mode and 720p/60, then the only real game is the GH2.

Thanks guys... now it'll be easier to convince myself to get the 60D for the nicer ergonimoics!

Looks like a might have to look at some longer lenses. Then - Sigma 100-300 f/4 would be nice, or maybe the Canon 400/5.6L.
