Guys,

Could you tell me what is a minimum for a external monitor (editing) ? I mean how many lines? I just found Sony 14'monitor in B&H with 600 lines. The price is 450$. Do you think I need more lines?
Is it true I need at least 800 lines and bigger than 14''?

Thanks,
Voytek

Re: 600 lines monitor sucks.

Which model Sony was that?
The 14N5U and N6U (included 16x9 mode) were 500 lines and considered among the best out there for DV. The M2U was the next step up with 600 lines and blue gun but cost a lot more than $450.

No, you don't need 800 lines...unless you really want to spend a bundle of cash; 600 lines is more than DV can resolve.

Re: 600 lines monitor sucks.

So, in B&H they sell Sony PVM 14L1 13'', 600 lines, NTSC/PAL, 4:3 - 16:9 FOR 449 $

I need all those features and If you say it's ok for editing I will buy this one.

Do you beleve I get get better price for this one somewhere in the universe or just go for this one from B&H?

For what it is, the L1 has been described as a great monitor for the price. It's not a broadcast monitor, it's more of basically a repackaged Trinitron television set, but it's supposed to be very very nice.
