$600 FOR 550 kit

Somebody offered me $600 for my 550d with the 18-55 kit lens + extra 3rd party batt, no SD cards.
I can get the 60d body for about $910 + 45 for 2nd batt. Good swap?
I have a Canon 24mm 2.8 50mm 1.8 and 55-250 zoom till I can get a better wide lens later. I love that little cheap 18-55 IS lens, but little to slow, ready to let it go.

I had a similar oportunity recently, and decided to hold any upgrade until the difference is a but bigger: apart from the swivel screen and ergonomics in general, the 60D doesn't add much to the mix (specially now with magic lantern coming to the 550D)

but that's just because I'm an amateur, and only use my camera once a week or so

if you're making money with your camera, and using it more often, then the swivel screen may be worth those $300: it will make your life a lot easier

still, maybe $600 is too low: I have no idea, I live in a different market and have never tried to buy/sell a used camera

in any case you could always spend those $310 on a cheap field monitor that could live on to your next camera

Also, for three-hundred, look at one of the cheaper monitoring options. I know it is different, but it would get you a BIGGER articulating screen WITH magic lantern

Keep the 550d. Magic lantern broham.

Yeah the only reason I need it is the audio control. I have the latest Magic lantern download but haven't installed it yet.
I use the camera for work all the time now and worry about other problems the hack can cause.
Any positive feedback on the latest ML and how to install it?

This guy keeps hounding me to sell the 550D. I guess it's a sign. better sell the 10 month old technology while I have the chance. I would rather have the 60D in 2 years as an 2nd camera than the 550D for sure anyway.

i'd at least get try 700. this is with the kit lens. cmon.

He can get a new one here with the kit lens for $748, no tax, out the door.
My gut feeling is take the money and go get the 60D this afternoon.
The manual audio is the reason, I've needed it on a few jobs in the past few weeks. I don't want to get into the hack because it can lead to other processor stability issues.

The 60D is a better camera

I really like the 550, but I am really happy with the step up to the 60D. I would not look back at all.

Pros:
Inerchangable focusing screens (get the EF-S screen for fast aperture lenses $45)
Much bigger/better VF
Command dial
Top LCD
Better feel in hands
More weather sealing
Better AF
More FPS (bigger buffer)
Adjustable WB in Kelvin
Adjustable max ISO in auto ISO mode (stills)
Batteries last twice as long and work in the 5D/7D also
Swivel LCD

$600 isn't a bad deal at all. I bought my camera for less than $750 out the door w/ the kit lens. If I could get $600 for it, and the timing was right i.e. on a payday. I'd swap it over for a 60d.

Sold the 550D and picked up the 60D. The 550D is a great camera, but I gotta say the 60D is a much nicer piece of equipment. Aside from the fact that the HD resolution is the same it's a whole different camera to work with. Many well thought out human factors to access controls more easily. One thing I hadn't considered until getting it, is things like the flip out screen remains closed when shooting stills. This feature makes sense, both protecting the view screen when not in use and keeping it free of nose prints all the time. I think the industrial designers at Canon spent a lot of time and thought making a camera we would like to work with. I think this will make a great second camera to the 5D mark 3.
