60 fps playback

If it is 720pn and you overcrank (for slomo effect) to 60 fps, The effect is viewable in VTR mode...

I played it back on the camera screen from the P2 card, and it was in 'regular' motion. It was recorded at 60fps in the 720p mode.

You need to make sure you have the settings right. In menu #5 (recording set up) make sure you are set to 720/24PN then in menu #1 (scene file) make sure you are in FILM CAM mode the set the frame rate there to 60.

It sounds like in menu #5 you set the (rec format p2) to 720/60p. You will not get variable frame rates in that mode.

This is exactly what I did. Has anyone actually seen slow motion on the camera LCD without going through an external process?... (ie: shoot 720/pn FILM CAM @ 60fps and play it back right away in slo mo).

Yes.

I do it all the time on the HVX200.

On Menu 1. Scene File set the cameras frame rate to 60FRAME (FILM Cam Mode) If you miss this step then nothing will happen.
On Menu 5. Recording Setup. Set the record format to 720p/24PN.

Record something moving. Then switch over to MCR/VCR mode and play back the clip. It will be in slow motion. If want fast film motion set the Scene file's
frame rate to say 12FRAME then record something and play it back. It should
look like a Charlie Chapman movie.....

Hope this helps.

Yes! In fact I just did it. Are you shure your settings are right?

Do me a favor and go to your thumnail screen, select one of the clips that you shot slo-mo. Now hit the menu button > scroll down to property > select clip property.
On the left side of the screen at the bottom check the following and report back with the info for:

V_Format:
Frame Rate:
Rec Rate:

Ok, I think what happened was we turned the camera off in between takes. When we turned it back on, the frame rate under FILM CAM must have gone back to DEFAULT on its own, because it reads 60 in the properties of the thumbnail.

Thanks everyone !... back to work.

It does that if you do not save your Scene File after changing it.
