5dmk3 = 50% less rolling shutter in 720p??

I've heard this from several people recently. Guess it could very well be a statement from one of those blogs spreading bollocks.

So, 5dmk3 = 50% less rolling shutter in 720p? True or false?

Never used one, but I could very easily see this being true. Rolling shutter performance is usually better at faster frame rates. I've observed this on the GH2, HPX300, HMC40, and other cameras. On the GH2 for example, 720/60p rolling shutter performance is much better than 1080/24p rolling shutter.

It's not that way on all cameras; for example, the AF100 has identical rolling shutter at 24p, 30p, and 60p. So it may or may not be that way with the 5D Mark III, but if it does indeed have less rolling shutter in 720p, it would make sense.

Yes. The reason for this is that they start to skip lines. Skipping lines = worse image quality but faster readout. So less rolling shutter. If a cam doesn't skip lines like the AF100 then it won't get the added faster readout. Same thing on the Sony FS700. Faster you go = less rolling shutter = more artifacts.

I would actually be very, very pleased if they could get the 720p readout speed also for 1080p. It seems that on the 5d mark III it is exactly the same as on the old 7d.

Funny how these readout speeds haven't really increased at all. My first HDV cam with a cmos (Sony HC1) has the same amount of wobble as the newer Sony EX1/EX3/FS100/700. No improvement at all. And the old Canon HV20 in cinemode has atleast as slow a readout as these Canon DSLR's.
