7D 5d vs 7d Action Sports Videographer

Why would you want to go Full-Frame for video? Full frame is for photography. The 1.6x crop factor is ideal for video, because it's exactly what you see in a Panavision or Arri 35mm motion picture camera. It's been like that for decades.

Basically, if you want to shoot stills of action sports, get the 5D. If you want to do video, get the 7D.

And believe me, you can plenty of Shallow DOF on the 7D.

Hell, I have trouble keeping focus with slow action using my 7D and a FF. I can't imagine shooting sports with one of these DSLRs...

Good luck,

Kegan

5D wouldn't make sense for weddings to me. Try getting all up in the brides grill with an 85mm when she tongues down the groom during the money shot on the 5d. She'll beat your ass for stealing her moment with your HDSLR. 7d will keep you at a SAFE distance with the same lens and give you a great picture(and you'll have fighting a chance to stay in focus solo style.) As for Jello, many other cams have jello. Don't do sloppy wip pans or get a HVX200 for $1600.

Let's all stop being sissy's and expect our cameras to give us awesome handjobs (though it would be nice:smile:) and learn to shoot footage like this:

I have been following the conversation as someone who is shooting surfing, skiing and snowboarding with the 7d.

Each camera has its advantages and disadvantages. With the 7d here is where it rules for what I do:

Weather resistant.
8 fps still
Crop Factor
focus on long shots isnt an issue.

Natually, I wouldnt try to shoot football or soccer with it, but with most action sports, a stationary camera can make the 7d work well.
