I am looking to purchase a new camera and I am so torn! I have read every forum and seen every video, but i neeed on last input. Canon 5D or HMC150? I like the cinema looking picture from the 5D. But it is a DSLR, and I am into video more than stills, but would still use stills. I am an indie film maker and am needting to use a rode shotgun mic, so will i be able to use and xlr mic on the 5D? Also I like the HMC because it is a camcorder and is built for video, and it shoots in 60p and 24p. Is the HMC150 better for short films and movies? or is the 5D better for short films and movies? Please help, and give advice for using a shotgun mic on a 5d

Simple answer: for shorts and films, the 5d wins. For live events and doc style shooting, the HMC wins.

On the other hand, the HMC having every tool you need makes it great for shorts and films, and the 5D's small form factor makes it easier to handle for events or documentary shooting.

Both cameras are really different and neither is a wrong choice. They both can produce great images.

As far as the shotgun mic, you wouldn't need anything with the HMC.. just plug and go. With the 5D, the correct way is to get a separate audio recorder (h4n is common)... simple way is slab a rode videomic on the top of the 5D.
