5D MKIII specs

Man, the whining never ends for some people here. I would love to make some sort of commentary on DVXuser and how it compares to occupy wall st. or the entitlement mentality of most kids and young 20 somethings, but I'll keep my mouth shut. :)

Be thankful for what we have! I still look at my 5D MKII and see a miracle. We're spoiled folks, big time.

You get information from DVXuser for free, and you complain about the users. You pay market value for a camera, and you feel blessed. ...Thank you. =)

LOL Good one, James!

I have to disagree Emanual ... Canon didn't fear it, they embraced it !

Now, there is now a whole new division. Before there is the DSLR division, there is the video division ... and now the Cinema EOS divison.
That's exactly because of this new cinema division that actually is a section of video division who is imposing to limit (e.g. no clean HDMI output or no AF at video side) any revolution the DSLR can be. Why? In one word: money. And yes, they (some people inside Canon, not for sure who inside the company gets money with the DSLR sales) fear the movement. All of them, the features introduced by the competition, very likely.

Thankyou James. I've wanted comment on that infantile KyleProhaska post but it wouldn't have been pretty.

Now, whilst I admit the latest 5DIII sample videos are a bar above the last few Canon sample videos... I am disappointed in a few things...

Why can't they film hot sexy women wearing lingerie and fishnet stockings?

That'd a perfect way to show all the technical achievements and such in regard to skin tone, moire, aliasing...

Canon, give me the camera to preview! It'd be my entry and excuse! Or give it to someone like Victoria's Secret Photographer Russell James (who is one of the greats that mainly shoot on Canon)

Quite probably both sides think the same on the other one : D But if POVs don't necessarily need to coexist, also the same not as opposed to some other angle somehow not coincident outside. There's no either 100% of factual material in each perspective or slight angle :-) NOT even ONLY two sides on the corner ;)

Thanks for the link.
I refuse myself to buy anything before Kholi to test it. So, working Ladies and Gentlemen of the major brand players, go sending him immediately a unit sample for Mr. Hicks to play with and post on the best online resource for moviemaking on earth or you won't have our money so soon : D

Kholi, please feel free to forward this stuff to the big bosses out there! Be our guest, thanks ;)

Funny when the C300 was announced we had 1080P short films to look at to see how it performed. We could head over to Paramount to see it, at least at my location. Even the 5DMII had some 1080P clips to see in the beginning. The 5DMIII gets announced and all there is are 720P stuff- and quite weak at that ( well one wasn't bad- just 720P blah ). Nikon at least released one short project in 1080P. The 5DMII was a boom for Canon, and the 5DIII announcement you would think they might have released something like short film projects or footage that lived up to the phenomena this all has become. However, it's quite limp! Odd marketing on this one.. Maybe they spent all their marketing money on the C300 roll out ( joking )...

Be careful, Pappas... the wolves are out.

But, I'll join you: not a single decently compressed 1080 video anywhere to be found, and you are definitely right there were two C300 full 1080's on Vimeo a few hours after the ceremonies ended.

they don't have to because they know there will be a mad race to see who gets the first test out first

Hmm, I just assume it is to keep users from being able to make ultimate judgements on video quality, during the hype of a new product. D800 got hit for quality, but I am glad that they at least released 1080.

Well, it's only been a few days.

They didn't worry about that on previous releases or the C300 release. Canon likes to control, so they would rather have great 1080P out first before someone uploads their cat sleeping in a shoebox in the closet shot in automatic mode. You know what I mean. Something else is at play IMO..

I've kept silent before the announcement and up to now, just to see all there was before saying anything. Then it's release was limp! It's odd. I'm not gonna drink the jones town kool-aid so quickly either. I expected more after three in and half years. The C300 in my opinion changed the landscape at Canon it appears.

The C300 is an awesome camera- just the 5DMIII deserved way more than this lackluster roll out. It has been one of the most anticipated cameras in years, and that was the roll out.

Perhaps because they're not really interested in promoting the video aspect of it? I mean, it always has been first and foremost a stills camera. You saw the rollout they gave the C300, in Hollywood, with commissioned films, and a Hollywood PR agency -- I mean, they know how to put on a show. And with the announced "C" DSLR, they probably figure they have that angle covered, and so they're not really pushing video in the 5D Mark III as a major aspect of it?

Agreed, I think that they have the video on the 5DMIII at a new level, and that's all good now for the stills division. So the video division has their hand in this now, and it's their new XL series of this era to to deal out into the market place, which is the C300 and what ever they release, if they do decide to compete with the FS100/AF100 market. Of course when the AF100 is updated with a new generation sensor and hopefully a codec like on the HPX250, and that's an 'if'. However if so it's going to get competitive. Of course that's just speculation.

Photojournalists, some of whom also need to shoot video, will be very happy with the 5DM3. And many, many others. And for good reason.

Some pixel-peepers (an honorable profession) will wait for competently-shot camera-original footage before deciding to buy (or rent) a 5DM3 or not. But many, many others will have already pre-ordered.

Canon (like Sony) has been on a tear lately, coming out with new models with increasing frequency -- notwithstanding earthquakes, tsunamis, nuclear disasters, floods, etc.

If the current new offerings aren't ones cup of tea, just wait a few weeks or months for the next hotness. Or shoot with what's available today. There's no shortage of fantastic tools to create with. Cheers.
