5D MKIII specs

I think it's very productive. You have a lot of opinions floating around but it's just horses for courses. Me personally...I find high ISOs a useless feature. Just because a camera can shoot that high doesn't mean it's good to shoot that high. I like to stick somewhere around the sweet spot of the camera so as to spit out an optimal IQ and not lose DR or image detail etc. That's just me of course.

ha ... that video the guy said the rate button is to rate your photos.
well that answer the question we were asking earlier in the thread

Even though, I doubt this time he is right on the post-processing comment regarding that sharpness we see in these samples.

Would be happy to be wrong. Just means I can finally buy a full frame image worth the time, cause that's what'll happen (as long as nothing else pops up around NAB time... ... ...).

If I could see some straight up 1080 un-processed video and it looked great (Gh2 great) I'd go and put down the full amount on pre-order. So, let's see what it looks like.

Clean high ISO is essential shooting full frame. The 5D lost it's low light advantage over the APS-C and M/43 bodies because you had to stop down so much to get a workable DOF a lot of the time. Now that's not going to be an issue and you can focus on hitting the sweet spot of the lens and getting the DOF you want. It's not so much about shooting in the dark as it is about flexibility. But you can do the Kubrick candlelit scene with this puppy, no doubt.

C'mon Kholi, it doesn't mean they did it. It would be silly to post-process it. This would be cheating. I don't believe they would do that. The good news is they don't need it :-)

Sure. Your tests and review will sell camera units among your readers here ;)

my gut says it will. I'm even thinking it could at least be good enough for b-cam on the feature alongside a C300.

Well, there's plenty of post processing going on... one of the shorts had vfx in it... I'd be impressed to all hell if the Marionette one (as creepy as it was) didn't have a nice color session and that was straight out of camera.

I'd process it too, so I don't blame anyone.

the vid with the paint girl looks like standard profile to me

I am not sure but as I have understand it there isn't any actual price increase. It is the dollar that is going downhill. Of course imported goods will be more expensive if your money is worth less.
...and
"Yes, there's R&D, marketing and other costs, but nothing out of the ordinary."
"Canon is not putting in magical pixie dust of the costliest unobtainium in this camera. It's bog standard stuff, electronic components the price of which is dropping like a rock. Yes, there's R&D, marketing and other costs, but nothing out of the ordinary. The consumer sees this, judges what the camera delivers, and thinks the $3500 is too much - another thinks it's cheap. The market will decide."

Boy Oh Boy.I've got work to do.....

- The market is part of the deciding factor. Consumer electronics (vs Custom or Military HW) are indeed market driven. If Apple can continue to sell at 1000% above cost, they they will continue to do so. Same for all other electronics makers.
- If R&D, marketing and tooling weren't such a factor then anyone could make your dream camera for you- but they can't
- Don't forget IP licensing and transfers. It's a HUGE hidden factor that is almost NEVER discussed. if you need clarification on this element, just ask.
- Early adopter penalty. This a thorny issue for me and because I've already written so much about the Good Ol days versus today, I'll keep it brief. In the old days, a camera would last 10 years before being upgraded. Today, we are ALL paying for beta products that seem never to be finished. Don't like this new world paradigm? Try going back to High8, VHS or even Beta tape. See? we're willing to pay HUGE sums for HD beta products because the incremental improvements (kaizen) seem to be worth it.
Further up in this thread, i walk through the pain of modern upgrades financially. Personally, I will never have this problem and am at peace with running my gear into the ground the old fashioned way.
- Currency fluctuations are a HUGE issue and i play the currency markets so i know this first hand, often balancing capitol investments against currency devaluations.
- Natural and man made disasters. Of course the Tsunami had an impact on price and ultimately any company that fabricates in Japan (aren't all these cameras made in China though?) will have had to pass that extra cost down to the end user/consumer.
Having said all this, and taking the dollar value/inflation into consideration, I can finally end this with one statement that i wish everyone would burn into their heads as a mantra.
IF WE KEEP PAYING TOO MUCH AND CONSTANTLY UPGRADING; THEN THEY WILL CONTINUE TO CHARGE TOO MUCH AND CONSTANTLY OFFER UPGRADES.
Pavlov invented this paradigm, not me. There is a dog in my house, but it's NOT ME ;)

LOL On that, you are right as most part of the time. One of the reasons your voice is gaining weight each day :-)

To add sharpness during the post-processing, it would be to somehow cheat. I guess they know what they are doing.

Why B-cam?! What B-cam...which one!? (where's that angel smiley?? LOL)

Well I'm actually thinking it could be A-cam worthy but I have to play with one for a while before I can determine that. I'd still hire a C300 or an Alexa for a few money shots though.

And given that the noise reduction is applied in video mode too it should look very good especially if the noise reduction is applied pre-compression and pre-downscaling

Then, it makes all the sense to wonder about what camera is A-camera after all... : D

Ratio price/features/IQ is mandatory.

On reduser, the thread is already closed. Overacting IMHO. No RED user can have fear awhile nobody has more than HD outside to offer. As of now, so far ;-)

Here's hoping, man. Not trying to be a hater, I do want Full Frame, just at a certain level of quality s'all.

A famous war criminal once said "you go to war with the army you have---not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time"
Right. Reason enough why you well know Kholi was kidding with you a few weeks ago and we are all waiting to see you match on the set, first. Later, at the screen ;-) At least, as much as in these boards. LOL :-)
