Does anyone know if canon will be coming out with 5d replacement anytime soon???

I'm planning on buying 5d but I'm just curious if there will be anything new out soon...

5D came out in 2005.

5DmkII came out in 2008.

I'd expect a 5DmkIII in 2011.

But hey, I know nothing apparently ;)

Your deductive powers are strong, Lenny. But they do not quite equal "knowledge." :D

I'm still expecting an announcement at or just before Photokina (end of September). As to what that announcement may be, see my first post above.

Buy what you can use today and use it. what even you learn today can be used tomorrow if/when better things come along. My GUESS is that we won't see a 5D3 this year, but I'd be happy to be wrong.

I think Canon will have learned a LOT from the release of the 5D2 and will want to make the 5D3 a serious market killer.

In addition, I think if a 5D3 was so close they would not have added new features to the 5D2 so easily (i.e. 24/25p etc), and would have made you buy the 5D3 instead.

All make sense. Thanks for your thorough input...

Why would Canon be so in a rush to update a SUPER HOT SELLING PRODUCT ? Buy a camera and start making the money you can. Plus, it is very smart to avoid buying the first batch of anything anyways, the 5D MKIII, AF100 ...etc.

Well, I've got to take issue with that. As an end-user for personal projects, you are right. Better to let others find the bugs pioneer workflows. But as a freelance DP (which I am) having new and current technology for clients is critical and a huge competitive advantage. When the 5Dmk3 comes out, I'll be first in line and I'll have quite a few clients that want to pay a premium to have thier projects use it.

Call it what you want, but when the BBC now recognizes 5D as a acquisitionable format you know the quality is getting there. I for one love the 5Dii and cant wait till a new version comes out.
