Hello, I ad a MK II that i recently sold, now I am looking for a new camara, my two options are MKIII and Pana AF 101. I have also project to finish that is mainly shot witha Red one, some shots with F3 and some with a MK II, I know sound like a big mess, its a documentary , so i will wait a bit to panic. With this new camera I need I am going to shoot some to use in that documentary project.

I know the af 101 is more convenient with te pro features, and I know the limitation of a DSLR as well. But what about this new codec in the MK III, do you think it makes the %D a better choice than the Pana? like it is a big diffrence in image quality? Do you think the Pana could be too much of a cut together with red, sony and 5D and i bbetr stick to the 5D? which of this two? pana and 5D cuts better with red?

Tha pana for me looks a little videoish sometimes from what I see on vimeo, but this could be because of the optics. The 5D lloks like photo in movement sort of thing to me, It´s a nice image but sometimes is very recognazible with that DOF and aspect, a real film is not like that either,

best regards

I don't think the 5D Mark III is a better choice than the AF-100, but if you have primarily Canon EOS lenses for yourself personally (that you would be using on whatever body you end up purchasing), then the Mark III will save you a headache.

no, I dont have any canon lenses, It was all rented. So I have to buy lenses as well, it would be the af 101 for pro video feaures or the MKIII if the iage is going to be nicer, that´s wahy I wanted to know about this new compression in the MK III , is this a better choice than the AF 101 codec?

Seeing that you shot s35 then stick to a sensor in it's size. Why not the FS100? I have the MK3 and it's a beast! THere is nothing wrong with the codec other than 420. My findings on the I-frame codec are delicious! The mk3 is in fact sharp. You just have to add a touch of post sharpen.

af100 can give u 1080 60p with payed update , dont think dslr can do same, about the sharpness..... it also depend on what lens u using.... if its some cheap 14-42 maybe...., but 25mm pany/leica f/1.4 - is very sharp even at wide open.... the pic is beautiful! i recently filmed a "concert" at local Bar..... extremely dark, but iso 1000 - not a problem at all ..... with some lens u can use AF option ..... manual wb, zebras, peaking, xlr, sdi......

i would never choose between camcorder and dslr...... plus even if u already own canon lenses - u can get a dump adopter (with out iris control).... and just use them wide open, with minimum iso and NDs
