5d mark 3 vs C100

Hi friends,

will there be a huge difference in moire , aliasing , and sharpness on the C100 than the 5d mark 3. I want to purchase a full frame sensor camera and these are my choices.

Thanks
Chris

Thanks for clearing that up. Is there a full frame camera better than the 5d mark 3 at around 6500?

...First off, can you say why you are interested in a Full Frame sensor camera?

I've seen lots of different answers to this question.

I have a 21mm Zeiss cp Ef prime that I want to use with a full frame to get no cropping

Ok, I get it, you want to use it as a wide-angle lens.

This is tough as currently there are no Full Frame sensor cameras that can produce an image as good as the Super35 cameras, so you are definitely taking an image quality hit in order to keep the Full Frame format.

We don't know enough yet about the VG900. Which is a full frame camcorder. (the first)
If it does uncompressed out to a recorder you are going to approach what you are looking for.
The only concern is how it fares in terms of aliasing, moire and rolling shutter.

Yes, I'm curious about this new camera. It's priced close to what a 5D MK3 costs, which should mean it produces a better image, otherwise why would you buy it?

If you read Phillip Blooms review from August 14, the 1DX looks quite good. Better than the 5D3, full frame of course.

Not true.
canon 1dx will give you nicer look than most cheap under $10,000 s35 cameras

ditch the full frame. in this price point you can reap the rewards from proper movie optimised s35 sensors. 21mm is still 21mm. 21mm on s35 is wider than most film makers have at their fingertips when shooting with cine lenses on s35. full frame looks rubbish nowdays. pure gimmic look in my opinion. c100 all the way out of the two options. vg900 and a99 is still line skipping and 4.2.0 in camera. i'd rather a sharp picture and 1.5x crop than a wide mushy image when paying the amounts you are talking about. your options of usable cine type lenses with no breathing becomes very limited when you need to cover a full frame

The VG900 automatically converts to APS-C framing when you put those lenses on it.

Looking at native footage, I would say that the Sony FS700 and BMC cameras produce sharper images ( hugely so with the BMC ) than the Canon 1DX. The BMC also has a larger dynamic range advantage, where far more detail is retained over a wider luminance range. ( the 1DX image does look improved over the 5DMk3 )

I would love to see a head-to-head test of the following cameras: Canon 1DX / Canon C100 / Sony FS700 / BMC ( especially to see how the C100 fairs against the other cameras )

There is of course also the 1DC which is full frame, however your closer to the 10k mark.

In this price point? 3 grand? Which proper movie optimised sensors at s35 can you get at 3 grand?

You just said in the NEX forum that the "nex 5n" is AMAZING. Odd how you can say that and then say that you need "movie optimised sensors" which the nex-5n definitely isn't.
