I think it's interesting how most of the T2i talk is happening in this (DSLR - GED) forum. It kinda reminds me of the story of that college that was built without any sidewalks. After the first year they looked at all the dirt paths the students had made and paved over those. Knowing the students would find the most efficient way to get around.

I guess we'll see what happens.

That's a pretty wise way of seeing things because it's always funny how when they put the paths in first that often they don't get used and people take the natural route.

I think its going to be very difficult to come up with a good forum category system at the moment because no one has any idea what the future hybrid camera landscape is going to look like. At any time a new camera or class of cameras could come out that would completely alter the whole hybrid camera landscape. I already saw this happen on Dpreview when the m4/3 cameras started appearing. It annoyed the hell out of those on the Panasonic and Olympus SLR forums and there were demands for a new m4/3 forum, which they got. The problem is that since a m4/3 forum was started there has sometimes been a lot of conflict between the Panasonic and Olympus m4/3 users and demands for separate forums.

To some extent the category system for DSLRs was a known, and I suspect that the video cam format was to some extent a known. Whereas with these hybrid cams everyone is running around from the latest one, to the next great one on the horizon. I think all we can know for certain is that soon the 5D mkII, GH1, 7D and 550D/T2i are going to be old hat and everyone will be getting excited about something else. Up until this point in time both stills and video cams followed a sort of predictable steady evolution. However, each new video DSLR or m4/3 type camera threatens to be a revolution and upset the status quo. There is plenty of space for revolutionary improvements in the video implementations in these cameras, which never or rarely happened on stills or video cams previously. My own suggestion would be to have a temporary forum category for new cameras, and then to move these posts into more settled categories once all the excitement dies down and natural categories start to emerge.
