550 Bitrate increase?

Quick question as I might pick up a 550D. I waded through the huge thread on the Magic Lantern and wasn't quite able to find a definitive answer.

I know Magic Lantern was able to increase the bitrate on the 550D. Does this have a similar effect as the GH1 hack did, where it increased the detail in the image and made it a sharper, cleaner image overall?

Also, if I buy a current 550D, will the hack work on it? I know that the Panasonic eventually blocked the GH1 hack from working on later models.

The bitrate increase on the t2i/550d isn't as dramatic as it was for the GH1. It bumps the quality up a little bit but is not the most stable. It does help from getting compression artifacts in your dark areas in my experience. As far as i know all of the 550d's are still hackable.
