50mm f1.8 vs 28mm f2.8

Hey guys,

I have a 550D/T2i and the kit lens 18-55mm f3.5 lens

I'm wanting a lens for shooting lower light scenes, however i'm not too pleased with the thought of putting a 50mm lens on the 550D so it's more like 80mm, that for me is not much use.

So, would a 28mm f2.8 serve me any better than my current 18mm f3.5 for low light or am i just wasting my time?

Mine is on order, i can only afford the kit 18-55mm for a while, will this allow me to get fair video outdoors, thanks

If you're shooting events in dark places you'll want the 50. If you're not shooting events, there's no reason to deal with low light scenes.

Well, i *may* be taking some stills of bands playing onstage but i'm looking for a lens that'll serve me well for shooting in street lighting and such

Use a flash !

or if the numbskulls trying to promote themselves dont allow that there are usually hot spots that dont require more than F3.5

the 50 is of course a great lens too
