hey guys
need some advice. i am buying a tripod for my 7d and would like a 501hdv bogen. but i found a good deal on the older model which the seller has told me is a fluid pro w/ sticks. i am just curious if anyone has any input on this fluid pro head? i have used the 501hdv on campus and am pleased with it, just want to make sure this older model is okay

hey guys,
i feel a bit stupid asking this, but i am buying a tripod for my 7d and would really like to go with the 501HDV, but am curious about the quick release plate. i realize the red button on the side is what allows the plate to be released, but the actual plate- is that something that i buy when i buy the tripod or is that something that comes with a camera when purchased new... hope this makes sense...
thanks for the help

The plate comes with the head. The 501 or 501HDV is just the head and doesn't include legs. Make sure that you're getting a package with legs, which will be a different model number.

Also, the 501 is not a true fluid head. The 501HDV might be, but I know for sure that the 501 isn't. Neither is the 503. The 516 is a true fluid head, however.

is that something that comes with a camera when purchased new...
Quick release plates will never be bundled with cameras because there is no standard design for quick release plates. Each brand, and sometimes each head model, will have a different design.
