4k Upscaling, and ProResRaw

Go ahead and buy the Shogun and find out rather than read what I’m trying to tell you. The Gemini and Sound Devices Pix also accept dual link input and don’t work with the F35. It’s not the dual link that is needed but programming to properly recognize the 12-bit dual link psf that Sony uses. Convergent Design did some work to make their recorder work for us. I highly doubt Atomos will do the same. You should buy it and find out for yourself, in the end you will have a nice 10-bit recorder.

I found the big recorder thread and realised I am just trying to re-invent the wheel clearly. And I have a lot to learn.

But I think the AJA 3gm and PIX-E5 is ideal.

How about you just enjoy what you have and stop entering territory you know nothing about?

From experience, you're just going to damage things and cause problems.

I'll just quote myself here, from a different thread.

Ok I surrender.

I heard back from both black magic and decimator. As you all have said, possibility is there, just not sure what it may do, if it even works.

Thank you so much for bearing with me, I guess these COVID times has gone a bit far too my brain.

I understand if my stubborness can be bit annoying, but I hope it is understood that would like to learn about something “I know nothing about” because I don't have the knowledge.

After speaking with techs at AJA, decimator, and rental techs, the law of diminishing returns is basically what applies here. Communication between CCD-signals, dual-links, 4444 sources, and debayering, seems to all be obstacles.

The other obstacles are decimation of the original signal and the simple fact that you cannot get more from less. The rest is all mechanics.

Sometimes in life - in this field - we just really want things to work a certain way.

In 2013, I was looking to pay someone, anyone who could hack the BMCC to shoot 1080/60p because I just refused to believe it couldn't do it.

A year later, I bought a 4K/60p camera.

Its like long ago when I was in my early 20s and had just gotten my first varicam. I tried getting more dynamic range out of the sensor.. i succeed but the image was beyond noisy and almost unusable. you cant squeeze blood out of a turnip.

I did hear something about the F35 though. And was just curious if it was possible. Mitch can probably answer this.

He said that if you have 2 IF boxes, one top mounted, one back mounted, you could technically get 12-bit 4444 50 FPS.

I have found a F35-kit I am looking at so I am already satisfied, just curious if this was true.

Recently upscaled to 4k using Resolve for a project, thought it did a great job. Was also very simple to do. Used the settings on Medium. 7Q is also a very nice option, I highly recommend. I was a big fan of Atomos before I owned the 7Q but now after using it on a few projects I prefer 7Q. I really like the thiner profile and metal casing, the power cable clips into the 7Q and is thinner compared to Atomos. It seems to me it was just thought of and designed better. I upscaled to 4k for the hopes of vimeo and youtube's algorithms to produce less artifacts. Not sure if that actually worked, but hey it couldn't hurt. The project will be premiering on the 19th. I'll post it here : )

Oh you so funny...

...for the record it was M42 lenses and e tape ;). Hense me saying "from personal experience". Not saying I havent tried some stupid ideas to make something work... just advising you shouldn't..

Yes 50p can be achieved with 2 boxes. Find me a recorder that can read quad link HD...so 2 LUT boxes might work...
