so the smallest solution would be an m.2 enclosure .....500gb for less than 150us. Somebody will release a integrated enclosure that makes use of the type c port, in an extended grip....3d printed. Drop out m.2's in their own sub-enclosure.....a kinda of magazine.

That is a very good idea and definitely possible.

$173USD for both

Not yet...

I hope JB will shoot some footage and make the P4K shine. Something with a few lights to get a taste of it's cinematic qualities would be awesome.

What kind of cable connection is the 12 volt dc power port? Is that only intended to be used with the supplied 110/220 volt plug pack? Is there a way to hook up a NP-F970 sony battery plate to that power port? Maybe that port is proprietary?

The Pocket 4K uses a LEMO port for 12V external power.

Sony’s L batteries are only 7.2V so likely won’t work with this port, but the battery door on the camera is supposedly removable, & most likely some 3rd party will make a battery holder that sits below the body, & includes a dummy battery interface. Wouldn’t be surprised if such a device utilized L Batteries.

Was thinking about same solution. Some sort of battery grip would be cool.

I know many peope say that “we cant have it all” - 4K raw, 5” touch screen and awesome battery life - but for me after using a7s for 4 years as a B cam I would never buy camery with same terrible battery life. No matter what.

Actually this isn't true.

It's not an actual LEMO brand connector.

Hi John,

Are you saying that it is not a 2-pin lemo connection port like many have been saying or assuming across the internet? :)

Is it their own proprietary connector?

Thanks!

Yes.

No.

Thanks for the feedback, John! I wonder what it is then. I am guessing you can't tell us what it is. :) I emailed Blackmagic support to see if they will let us know... Maybe I just have to wait until its closer to release. Haha

Update:
Just heard back from Black Magic email support on this 12v port: "We don't have the finalized spec on this quite yet. When it gets closer to release time, we will likely be able to answer this question. It will also likely be listed in the tech specs for that model."

I just want to go back to the basics on this thread.
I'm still amazed that BM did what they did in development of this camera.

They leap frogged most all expectations (certainly mine) w/ so many of the features that have been discussed but a few of them still stand out for me.
The XLR/phantom power audio, LUTs, 3 media options and UMP GUI.

I genuinely think they're going to redefine the small production camera with this.
We never preorder cams but I had a pair of these in my B&H cart within an hour of the release.

Hehehe.. My thoughts exactly.

I never and I mean never preorder a camera, but this is certainly the exception to the rule. The P4K as a package offers insane value for money. The specs literally blew my mind. I wasn't expecting so much and certainly not at this price point.

I just hope they nail the 'Mojo' which for me is the most important aspect of IQ. Combined with the new Color Science 4.0, this little fella will kick some serious #!%.

IMO the UM GUI is great idea and makes the Pocket so so so much better. That UI is one of the best I'v seen and truly takes this to a whole new level. Going with such a big 5" display in such a small camera is also very ballsy. I'm not even sure if anyone has done this before.

This will sure as hell redefine what one can expect from a $1,300 camera. The new Pocket will sell like free hookers and everyone and their grandma will have one. Even Soderbergh will ditch his iPhone and buy one. These are exciting times !

Agreed. The P4k is the first video only camera I've bought since the original Pocket, which I wound up selling because I just couldn't get proper focus with the LCD and I didn't want to rig it up. I've been saying for awhile I'd like to see larger LCD's on ILC's, crazy that cheap smartphones have 5"+ displays with all kinds of touch functionality and most cameras are still using 3" LCD's with touchscreens that pale compared to even a basic phone. Camera companies are so stuck with an old design paradigm that none of them seem to be willing to break from and do something different.

Cheers

Chris
