C300: 4K aside, how does Canon 1DC compare to C300???

I'm trying to evaluate the main differences between the Canon 1DC and C300.

I'm very attracted to the idea of being able to shoot in 4K if only for the much greater image resolution and reframing advantages, even though it's motion jpeg and not RAW.

Some questions I have regarding the 1DC and 4K shooting/editing:

• Motion Jpeg for chromakeying: Does that codec allow you to pull a clean chromakey?
I know that motion jpeg is a compressed format, but would motion jpeg at 4K be better than at smaller resolutions for chromakeying?
• 4K/24p Motion Jpeg for editing: what would be the recommended workflow? Edit in 2K or can a Macbook Pro Retina with 16GB of RAM handle 4K/24p motion jpeg sequences?
• SOUND: Can you record XLR audio or professional level sound into the 1DC? Or would pro audio have to be recorded separately?

The reason I'm asking these questions is because the idea of shooting in 4K really appeals to me, but I can't afford to shoot on the C500 or edit in RAW 4K right now.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Hi Erik. I actually did see that video and it's stunning! In fact it's how I discovered the 1DC.

Have you yourself shot with the 1DC or edited it's 4K footage and if so, what are your thoughts about editing 4K motion jpeg?

Thanks for posting!

Google "The Ticket" shot by Shane Hurlbutt. I saw it projected in 4k - looked pretty stunning. Not as sharp as the C500, but pretty stunning nonetheless.

Thanks Liam. Saw that on Vimeo as well. Looks beautiful.

But I'm curious why 4K footage from 1DC wouldn't be as sharp as 4K footage from the C500.
Isn't it the same resolution? The only difference being RAW as opposed to Motion Jpeg?

Does 4K Motion Jpeg mean that you get an image less sharp than you would with 4K RAW?

Don't get me wrong, the 1Dc was sharp. The C500 demo 'Man and Beast' which I also saw in 4k was almost too sharp! Both cameras looked great. They were shot in different styles, so I can't really compare codecs, but in theory with RAW you'll have better control over sharpening.

I haven't and I never have edited motion JPEG either. Would be curious about the workflow if it's different and if the compression is hard on systems.
