4gb's = twelve minutes of footage...?

Is this correct?

I'm not clear on this topic, and it's been bugging me for a while. Does 4gb's of memory get you twelve minutes of HD recording/twenty-nine minutes of SD recording?

And if that's the case, what capacity CF card would you 7D user recommend?

Thanks guys, any help would really get rid of the pangs!

Yes.

And no matter what size you get, you'll have a maximum of 4G *at a time*. So a 16GB card will give you a collective total of up to about 45 minutes, but again, recording will stop after the 4GB time limit has been reached so no individual clip can be longer than 4GB/12 minutes.

As for capacity, whatever you're comfortable with. I've got a couple of 4GBs and think they're too small.

I would go with 16 gig cards, not too small, while not having all your eggs in too big of a basket.
Also a good price point.
I use ADATA 16 gig cards 533x speed for around $65 each

Careful with Adata... seen a bunch of problems with them... I have had no problems with my Sandisk, patriot, delkin epro and Panasonic so far...

Does anyone get the problem of the buffer stopping the recording after a few seconds when the card is over around 80% full?

So far my limit has been the 16gig CF,im a little shell shocked about putting all or a large portion of my shots on a 32gig.I would be too pissed to lose that card, who knows my mind may change and i'll venture towards a bigger card.

We use to put an hour onto a tape. With no possibility for recovery should the worst happen (water, dropped, magnet, etc.). Now all of a sudden everyone is worried about solid state. Odd, isn't it.

I went with 32GD 400X Transcend off of NewEgg. Seems like a great deal and that size seems to be a sweet spot for price per GB. Might opt thought for a couple 16GB on my next purchase.

We've got lots of 32GB Transcend cards, some 133x and some 400x. So far so good.
